New South Wales is bracing for an explosion in cases, with nearly 60,000 rapid tests registered just hours after a new reporting system went live. Gabrielle_Boyle 9News MORE:

Customer Services Minister Victor Dominello told Today those results went back to New Years Day.

The online registration through the Service NSW app opened at 9am yesterday, with everybody who has recorded a positive result since January 1 required to upload it to the database.Positive rapid antigen test results must now be registered online in NSW. Mr Dominello admitted it would be "almost impossible" to police, but said there were practical benefits for people to upload their results, including if they needed financial support, grants, or to access healthcare more promptly."Because ultimately it's about connecting people with health care and if you register that you've got a positive test and you are one of those people that are at higher risk, we can then get help to you faster.

"For those people that don't have a Service NSW app, you can also go to the Service NSW website, and access the form there," Mr Dominello said when announcing the launch yesterday.NSW recorded its deadliest day of the pandemic yesterday, with 21 deaths linked to the virus.Seven of those were historical and were only reported yesterday after confirmation from the coroner.

Gabrielle_Boyle One of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Register test results from 12 days ago even though you've likely recovered. This only serves to increase fear and anxiety linked to 'case numbers'

Gabrielle_Boyle Where did they all buy their test from, as they have been sold out everywhere for weeks, strange now how 60 thousand people have reported. Go figure.

Gabrielle_Boyle The so called ‘let it rip’ strategy has been a disaster for NSW.With 2(as opposed to 3) dose Pfizer offering little protection against Omicron & that includes serious disease (cf recent Pfizer comments),the timing of Perrottet’s Dec 15 protection removals couldn’t have been worse

Gabrielle_Boyle Yeah because their not accurate
