New technology will soon catch out distracted motorists using their mobile phones as legislation passes through South Australian parliament. 9News

are expected to generate millions of dollars which will all be reinvested back into road safety.

Driver distraction is also the leading cause of fatalities and serious injury crashes on roads, according to SA Police.trialled for use in VictoriaPolice Minister Joe Szakacs said it was a relief to see the "important legislation pass before the end of the year". "It is my hope as minister that through driver education these cameras will become redundant as drivers realise the dangers of using their phones while driving."More than 30,000 notices have been issued to distracted drivers for mobile phone offences over the past four years across the state.The cameras along with education will play a major role in reducing dangerous driving behaviours, SA Police Assistant Commissioner Ian Parrott said.
