Federal Government has announced nearly $1bn of funding and a suite of new legislation on Wednesday intended to combat a national crisis of gender-based violence.

The Australian government has introduced new measures to ban certain types of pornography and enforce stricter age verification protocols online.

Deepfake technology allows users to project the face of a real person onto images or videos of porn actors. Picture: Medium Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said on Wednesday: “Sharing sexually explicit material using technology like artificial intelligence will be subject to serious criminal penalties”.

One such expert is Digital Ethics Professor Jeannie Paterson who spoke to Sky News Australia on Wednesday about the new legislation.
