Editorial: Morrison's US trip had to navigate between two extremes

While Mr Morrison has now had a state visit to the US and held bilateral meetings with Mr Trump he is a stranger to Chinese President Xi Jinping.

But they are part and parcel of diplomacy, especially between leaders such as Mr Trump and Mr Morrison from the same side of politics.

Treat China like a grown-up, says Scott Morrison on US tourThe prime minister says the whole world - China and the US included - must pull together to make sure global trading rules are fit for a modern age. Great news, together we can bring real prosperity. Love Trump he is doing a great job, hope Scomo is 1\\2 as successful. I have been Back in France a month now and I can truly appreciate the mediocrity of the Australian government. It’s a different world here almost not the same timeline. Australia seems so backward viewed from here.

Australia should mimic US’ on-shore oil extraction: resources minister | Sky News AustraliaThere’s no “imminent” threat to national fuel reserves in the wake of the drone attacks on two Saudi Arabian oil processing facilities but Australia should be prospecting for on-shore options, Resources Minister Matt Canavan says.\n\nMr Canavan used the United States as an example of the benefits of on-shore exploration. \n\nHe said “10-15 years ago, the US was the largest importer of oil in the world; in the next few years they’re likely to be a net oil exporter for the first time in more than 50 years.”\n\n“That is all due to these amazing technological developments in extracting shale oil and shale gas.\n\n“Given what’s happened in the US, we should also be seeking to apply similar technologies here.”\n\nMr Canavan said Australia holds on average 40 days of fuel supplies. \n\nImage: Getty No. Aust buys inexpensive ready product from Asia's refineries which can buy from Timor, Iran, Venezuela, Yemen, Saudi etc... No point at all to damage Aust sensitive whale birthing grounds, seaweed areas, fish & dugong nurseries when oil is already available from elsewhere. Matt, the minister for the f$king obvious! We can all see the necessary! Just get it done! If only someone had the foresight to invest in electric vehicles... oh yeah you sabotaged that!
