There’s no “imminent” threat to national fuel reserves in the wake of the drone attacks on two Saudi Arabian oil processing facilities but Australia should be prospecting for on-shore options, Resources Minister Matt Canavan says.

Mr Canavan used the United States as an example of the benefits of on-shore exploration. He said “10-15 years ago, the US was the largest importer of oil in the world; in the next few years they’re likely to be a net oil exporter for the first time in more than 50 years.

” “That is all due to these amazing technological developments in extracting shale oil and shale gas. “Given what’s happened in the US, we should also be seeking to apply similar technologies here.” Mr Canavan said Australia holds on average 40 days of fuel supplies. Image: Getty

If only someone had the foresight to invest in electric vehicles... oh yeah you sabotaged that!

Matt, the minister for the f$king obvious! We can all see the necessary! Just get it done!

No. Aust buys inexpensive ready product from Asia's refineries which can buy from Timor, Iran, Venezuela, Yemen, Saudi etc... No point at all to damage Aust sensitive whale birthing grounds, seaweed areas, fish & dugong nurseries when oil is already available from elsewhere.
