Set your alarms for early Sunday morning everyone, the best meteor shower of the year is set to sprinkle the night sky. 🌠

Or maybe if you’re planning to have a big one on Saturday night, you might want to push on through until about 3:00am to give yourself a chance to catch what could be a dazzling light show.

A meteor shower known as the Eta Aquarids is set to sparkle across the night sky. The celestial show is actually the debris field left by Halley’s Comet hundreds of years ago and Earth happens to be orbiting right through its path at this time of year. The comet dust smashes into Earth’s upper atmosphere at nearly 240,000 kilometres per hour, causing greenish colours to streak across the night sky.

The meteor shower happens every year and is said to be active for a few weeks from around April 19 to May 20, although Earth ploughs most deeply into this stream of comet debris around May 5 or 6. With the Eta Aquarids peaking early next week, some of you have asked me to post this again. Happy viewing!
