Melbourne City has secured its maiden A-League grand final berth following a tense 2-0 victory over competition newcomers Western United in Sydney.A Jamie Mclaren goal and an own goal from Western United's Tomoki Imai was enough to send City through to the season deciderThe grand final will be played on Sunday, with City to face Premiers Plate winners Sydney FC or Perth Glory.
Western United defender Tomoki Imai turned the ball into his own net under heavy pressure from a corner with six minutes remaining as City ran out victors. Western United was aiming to become just the second club to reach the A-League season decider as an expansion club. Socceroos fullback Josh Risdon momentarily appeared like grabbing a rare goal soon after for Western United but City goalkeeper Tom Glover palmed away at full stretch.
Not bad for WUFC’s first season in the A-League, surely next year the title is heading to the west ...
