Analysis: Bridget McKenzie's stubborn refusal to quit engulfed the government in scandal for more than a fortnight. Even on her way out the door she maintained no real wrongdoing, writes Rob Harris | rharris334

By Sunday afternoon, it was outright frustration from many that it had been allowed to go on so long.

While some will see McKenzie as simply the scapegoat of an entirely unsophisticated scheme, it should be noted her rapid rise to a position of leadership in late 2017 was itself courtesy of a string of bumbling mistakes within the National Party. Having never served on the frontbench, she was parachuted into Cabinet despite a number of colleagues having grave misgiving about her capability to manage a serious portfolio.

Colleagues were worried that the young staff members appointed to work for her would not last the distance. Even as a backbench senator, her employees turned over at an incredible rate.Every few weeks there was another story in the media about an egegrious misuse of taxpayer money for a VIP jet on a jaunt to Queensland or Perth for some sports event at a cost of thousands of dollars.

rharris334 That's how arrogant she is.

rharris334 And that’s what’s wrong with politicians today, they don’t even recognise wrongdoing; they’re so out of touch

AmyRemeikis rharris334 Translation; she’s a nitwit! “Having never served on the frontbench, she was parachuted into Cabinet despite a number of colleagues having grave misgiving about her capability to manage a serious portfolio”

rharris334 this is rubbish. Poor little Scotty? She's inflicted damage on poor helpless Scotty? The PM could have asked for her resignation ages ago - except he has now left wide open that is in it up to his rapidly blinking eyelashes.

AmyRemeikis rharris334 Umm, she didn’t go ‘cause she had the goods on ScottyfromMarketing. So the messy coverup ‘deal’ results. Are political journos these days stupid or just too young, as in inexperienced?

'More smoking guns than a Clint Eastwood movie': Labor mounts pressure on Bridget McKenzieLabor is ramping up its calls for Bridget McKenzie to be sacked from the government ministry as federal politicians prepare for the first sitting week of the year. What is 'being sacked' though? They step down from ministry for a while, then come back. & What about Morrison whose Dept was directing it, & cabinet who signed off on it? Sacking McKenzie alone would be weak justice & a cover up. Why are ALP using their position in gov to play politics instead of working for their constituents? Seems pretty hypocritical She needs to bring down with her the other pathetic disgraced MPs and PM with her... at least she would be remembered for something.
