Border closures and lockdowns can work for a period of time but are “obviously not sustainable, economically or socially” according to National University of Singapore Professor Dale Fisher.
Professor Fisher told Sky News he doesn’t believe in the “bunker down and wait for a vaccine happy ending” approach to deal with the threat posed by the coronavirus. He said the approach has really got to be “living with the virus”. “And I think if that’s not realised sooner, it will be realised later”. The professor said it shouldn’t be attempted to try and make keeping borders shut a sustainable option. “It’s really a mechanism to buy time, just as is lockdown”.
