President of the Victorian Farmers Federation farmer_dj says farmers need to have free movement through the SA and Victorian border in order to keep the industry running properly.

President of the Victorian Farmers Federation David Jochinke says farmers need to have free movement through the SA and Victorian border in order to keep the industry running properly. South Australia has refused to lift its borders as of midnight on Thursday making it more difficult for Victorians on the SA border to cross interstate.

“For us it’s all about making sure that we can get that free movement of workforce through these borders,” Mr Jochinke told Sky News host Peter Gleeson. “Agriculture is an essential … a critical service. “When we see these restrictions it does place a stress, it does place a strain through that whole system. “This is something we look at not in isolation … we look at it as a whole nation view of how can we service the nation.

Sending Victorians back into COVID hotspots could be more dangerous for SA | Sky News AustraliaPreventing Victorians from crossing into South Australia could force them back into COVID-19 hotspots increasing the risk of the virus spreading to the border communities, according to Liberal MP Tony Pasin.\n\nThe South Australian government will enforce a hard closure of its Victorian border on Friday, a drastic step away from current arrangements that allow residents of border communities to travel inter-state with regular COVID-19 testing.\n\n“I just fear that we’ve got ourselves in a situation now where risk adverse decisions are being made without regard for the economic consequences,” Mr Pasin told Sky News host Chris Kenny.\n\nMr Pasin – whose federal electorate of Barker encompasses South Australian border communities – said it would be “much more risky” for those cross-border towns if Victorians were forced out than if strict arrangements were made for inter-state travel.\n\n“By forcing Victorians who would otherwise obtain their health services or other services from places like Mount Gambier … they (could) move back into Victoria where the disease load’s more prevalent,” he said.\n\n“The solution here cannot be to lock communities away from each other.”\n\nImage: News Corp Australia What a load of... Victoria / South Australia border closures will actually cause increase in corona virus cases rather than eliminate them. Open the SA border now !

NSW Police tighten Vic border regulations | Sky News AustraliaNew South Wales Police has tightened rules and regulations for Victorians travelling across the border after officers were repeatedly sent to check on travellers believed to be in self isolation before they even left the state. \n\nPolice were required to carry out checks on people travelling across the NSW - Victoria border to ensure they were complying with a mandatory 14 day self-isolation period.\n\nThe expiry date for exemptions granted to Victorians was shortened from 14 days to three days as police officers carried out isolation checks from the date permits were issued rather than from the date interstate travellers entered NSW. \n\nMeanwhile, a report on Friday morning revealed businesses instructed to deep clean their facilities after being linked to a coronavirus infection were not inspected by health officials before reopening. \n\nThe revelation drew criticism from NSW Labor which called for extra safety measures to be rolled out. \n\nImage: News Corp Australia
