SA border remains shut to Victorians but international students welcome | Sky News AustraliaSouth Australian Health Minister Stephen Wade has struggled to answer questions as to why international students will be allowed to enter the state to study but the border will remain shut to Melburnians. \n\nMr Wade said South Australia was allowing international students to enter the state to resume their studies because having foreign students in universities was “an extremely important industry for South Australia”.\n\n“It’s worth $2 billion a year to our economy, for every four students who come into South Australia, that’s another South Australian who gets a job,” he said. \n\nHe said the port of dispatch for the international students was Singapore. \n\n“The reality is, these students are coming from relatively low risk, low prevalence COVID-19 environments,” Mr Wade said. \n\nHowever, Mr Wade said the border would remain closed to Victorians. \n\n“Victorians is a different case in point when you’ve got 2,100 cases in the last week we’ll continue to maintain our border with Victoria until it’s safe to do so,” he said. \n\n“Melbourne has got 17,000 active cases.”\n\nThe Victorian State Government Health and Human Services released on Monday there were 7,474 active COVID-19 cases in Victoria. \n StephenWadeMLC So the Vice Chancellors can keep earning $1 million plus bucks per year StephenWadeMLC The reason is MONEY StephenWadeMLC He had no clue after being asked simple questions, he knows that they are most likely Chinese students via Singapore, just like at the beginning of Victorians shut-down, Andrews and university mates, paid those from China for their extra expenses for flying in via other countries

PM acknowledges joint state, federal responsibility for aged care sector | Sky News AustraliaPremier Daniel Andrews has downplayed claims of tension between the Victorian and federal governments, insisting his only focus is on the “collective attack against this virus”. \n\nOn Wednesday, Prime Minister Scott Morrison appeared to shift the blame for Victoria’s troubled aged care sector to the state government, later clarifying at a press conference there is joint federal and state responsibility for the sector.\n\n“It’s the overlapping of public health responsibilities which sits with states and federal aged care responsibilities which sit with the federal government, so yes it is a complex set of responsibility and they are shared,” Mr Morrison said. \n\nWhen asked about the remark, Mr Andrews said he was “not interested” in attempting to interpret the Prime Minister’s comments. \n\nThe Premier moved on to outline of the 2,050 active coronavirus cases in the aged care system, only five were linked to state-run facilities. \n\n“I’m not seeking to make any other point than the facts, and they are the facts and I’ve consistently presented them that way … that is the appropriate thing to do,” he said. \n\nMeanwhile Victoria Police revealed only 42 state residents had been fined for breaching the state’s lockdown laws. \n\nThe state has seen a continued downward trend in its daily caseload, recording 216 new cases and 16 fatalities in the past 24 hours. \n\nImage: News Corp Australia DanielAndrewsMP Leave the virus, get you policies in order regarding nursing homes and let everyone else get back to normal DanielAndrewsMP Ye okay, just cause you said so Dan.
