Sky News contributor Cory Bernardi says while the government made a wise call to try and keep as many people employed during COVID-19, the nation is now 'going to live with this legacy of this overreaction for a very, very long time'.

Sky News contributor Cory Bernardi says while the government made a wise call to try and keep as many people employed during COVID-19, the nation is now "going to live with this legacy of this overreaction for a very, very long time". It comes as widespread reports have emerged businesses are struggling to fill employment roles as Australians instead prefer to be on either JobKeeper or JobSeeker funds.

"I believe they need to cut the JobKeeper as soon as they possibly can," One Nation leader Pauline Hanson told Sky News host Paul Murray. "It shouldn't extend beyond September the 27th". Mr Bernardi said the nature of this is that "when you give something to people for free, they take it for granted".

Unemployed opting for welfare over work | Sky News AustraliaNew data out today reveals businesses are struggling to find applicants despite the high unemployment rate. \n\nEmployment Minister Michaelia Cash said more than half of all businesses who reported recruitment difficulties said the main reasons were a lack of applicants, skills and experience. \n\nWith unemployment sitting above seven per cent, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the JobSeeker payments were likely a factor. \n\n“We are getting a lot of anecdotal feedback from small businesses and large businesses where some of them are finding it hard to get people to come and take shifts because they’re on these higher levels of payment,” he said. \n\n“So we’ve just got to make sure that we continue to provide what is a reasonable level of support in the middle of the worst recession we’ve had since the Great Depression. \n\n“But at the same time, we can’t let the help get in the way.” \n\nImage: Getty Load of BS sure they are sitting at home on free money Here comes the Murdoch BS factory..
