David Dungay Jr died while being restrained by corrective officers in a cell at Long Bay Prison Hospital in 2015 — now his family is trying to help others navigate NSW's 'overburdened' coronial system.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander readers are advised that this article contains the image and name of a person who has died.Leetona Dungay has had to relive the final moments of her son, David Dungay Jr, from the time of his death in 2015 to when she first walked inside the NSW Coroner's Court in Glebe three years later.

The inquest found the 26-year-old died from cardiac arrhythmia while being restrained by corrective officers in a cell at Sydney's Long Bay Prison Hospital. The hearings were split into three, taking place over several weeks between July 2018 and March 2019. "Many deaths in custody transpire outside of the Sydney region and the last thing the family want to do is go to an inquest and hear paragraphs about their deceased loved one and stress about finding a car park and miss out on crucial information from the hearing — it's simple little things like that that puts more anxiety on a family," Mr Silva said. The family of David Dungay Jr became figureheads in the fight to change the record on Indigenous deaths in custody.

Inside her lounge room, photos of a young David are displayed next to a large artwork of him, arms across his chest, with the words "Justice for David Jnr... Our Dunghutti Warrior".The National Justice Project, a not-for-profit body, advocates for Indigenous families throughout the coronial process.

Doesn't sound like the cops dod anything wrong. People need to take responsibility for their own behaviour.

The $150k in Super includes those who have just started working, those who only work part time and those who don't work. A bit disingenuous tbh. In 20years time. more people will have big numbers in their super and get caught up in this Labor theft. Who get what you vote for? It is not…. Superannuation is private money. It belongs to the individual. Not the government.

ABC will ‘take a long lunch break’ and ‘ignore’ interest rate decision in 40 minute strikeSky News host Chris Kenny says ABC journalists planning on going on a 40-minute strike when the RBA makes its next interest rate decision next week “underscores how out of touch these people are”. “They'll all take a long lunch break and ignore the news that’s going to dramatically affect the weekly budgets of the mainstream taxpayers who pay their wages,” Mr Kenny said. “They expect us to pick up the higher mortgage repayments and stump up for a 23 per cent pay rise for them at the same time. “It might be best if they stay on strike because we all pretend it's our ABC, but they know it's their ABC.” Defund the ABC Will there be a march, and will Ita and David be leading it?
