A Labor government would commit $660 million to new programs to curb violence against women

in a significant move that more than doubles the amount the Coalition put toward the problem just two months ago.

Opposition Leader Bill Shorten and deputy leader Tanya Plibersek will release Labor's women's policy on Friday.Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced $328 million in funding on March 5 for the 1800 RESPECT domestic violence hotline, a "prevention hub" to support not-for-profit groups, emergency housing and home security upgrades for women and children to stay in their homes.

The government estimated in March that it had put $840 million in federal funding towards the national agreement since 2013, including its March 5 announcement.Mr Shorten and Ms Plibersek will outline the package on Friday with the Labor spokeswoman on family violence, Linda Burney, at the party’s womens’ policy launch.

Another $60 million would be put toward the construction of more womens’ refuges and emergency accommodation. The Labor policy also includes government grants to women who need to pay the rent, buy furniture or pay for other household expenses after escaping violence, as announced by Mr Shorten in early March.

A reasonable start. Labor must commit to criminalising CoerciveControl or they’re only buying a $660million bandaid. tanya_plibersek SenatorWong

Will this be funded by the proposed Death Tax the Greens and Unions are demanding?

Seriously money will not stop it. The law must change its that simple. Men and women are victims not just women.

It’s easy to say we will donate. both parties say they will Give money away all the time. I’m happy for that but please explain where and how the money will be spent. Everyone wants this, but it has to make a difference to women not just to get votes

How about committing resources to banning unions - that would be a good start! PS: that little snake shorten will promise money to anything he thinks will get him a vote

Will this money go towards curbing violence against men?

What are they doing about the 2 to 3 men a week who are committing suicide because the system enables women to deny them access to their children? Not all abuse shows obvious marks on a person’s body!

Much needed financial assistance to curb Domestic Violence as another woman died days ago. Double what Liberals have promised. One woman a week dies at the hands of a male

Yeah right throw money at the issue , thats going to stop it .... how about harden the laws and actually do something about it pathetic labor to use this as your slogan to get votes ..... you should be doing this regardless

or you could cut my taxes

When the LNP are not race baiting, cutting preference deals with overtly racist, misogynistic & homophobic Clive Palmer & Pauline Hanson they try to bully their own women into submission. auspol ausvotes

No reason at all for live export in 2019. Yes! A positive impact on the sheep AnimalRights I don't wish to see any farmers disadvantaged in any way but my question is, Why can't animals for export be slaughtered here and exported? The new industry could be highly regulated and monitored as well as having the slaughtering supervised by a cleric to meet Halal needs.
