Well done Bill

I need a memory,I had a huge agreement with a publican about paying under award wages Wages haven't increased in 10 year.People are living in cars. What you are you going yo do about it Bill

Start by increasing trade based apprenticeships . 457 visas saw an over supply of labour supposedly skilled. A reduction in wages and a lack of job security as major contact construction bosses reap the rewards. Skilled tradies pay the price of big construction profiting .

Good start. But why is the ALP only proposing to lift the 457 visa threshold to $65k, and not the average fulltime salary of $86k, or at minimum the median wage of $68k?

billshortenmp So bullsht Bill who you going to get to work in the sectors that Aussies won’t? You paint with broad strokes your going to get paint on yourself! KillingAustralia

457s at all time high under Labor previously

That’s funny - when Labor were in Govt the BIGGEST % of 457 visas was UNDER THEM Hypocrite Labor assume people are stupid and facts don’t matter auspol ausvotes

This is bad. This is stirring. The dichotomy of Labor. Left leaning, but beholding to right members of unions?!? This is bad policy.

Didnt Labor have the largest increase in 457 approvals whilst they were in govt? 🤔

BILL presided over more 457 visas than anyone ever when last in power, i am confused, now it is fixed he wants to go back to what he did before or some new stuff up?

Pssstt, someone tell billshortenmp about this.... You're out of your depth, Bill. auspol

The problem is employers ignoring our laws and hiring temp VISAs to replace what would be min/low-wage positions. More laws won't change anything, especially considering that you want to raise the min wage further and increase immigration. AusVotes2019

As someone who immigrated to Australia on a 457 VISA I really don't get this, I am anything but cheaper then local labor not to mention the cost of applying and getting a 457 could easily employ someone for a couple of months.

Billy boy rehashing old policy, he has nothing left in the think tank! He has no answers for this country, none!

Surely if there are over a million +- “temp or visitors” visors issued at any one time, then casual jobs are taken big time!

Hypocrite shorten.

Here comes the union push. Starting small and remote then will grow. Just watch

Again? Wasn’t the Gillard Govt (of which Shorten was a senior member) already supposed to have “cracked down” on 457 visas? This is just more Daley-style dog-whistling from the xenophobic Labor Party. auspol ausvotes

He'll give them citizenship instead.

About time!

WB: Bill Shorten the Olympic champion in issuing 457 visas the numbers grew from 68,000 to more than 110,000. 2007-13 Labor said this is all about the mining boom'. The reality is that, of the 40,000 additional 457s in 2007-13 there were only 3,000 who went to the mining sector

The Australian farming industry is totally reliant on cheap overseas labour. See how many Aussies want to do those jobs.
