I am the whistleblower. It was me who lit the fuse under a financial giant, and now choose to tell my story of what happened and the toll it took.

In 2015 an IOOF insider approached this publication to expose wrongdoing at one of the country’s biggest and oldest financial institutions. He had blown the whistle inside IOOF and had been sacked. His allegations raised issues about IOOF's culture and governance, including failing to report insider trading and other forms of market manipulation. The scandal sparked a series of investigations and calls for a royal commission.

It was difficult sitting in an office. My fiancé and family worked outside of finance, so it was hard to turn to them for support - in fact, I didn't tell them what I had done until a few weeks ago. HR constantly tried to "encourage" me to leave the firm which I felt was a way to sidetrack me from completing the dossier. The HR person would then make a separate complaint against me. The three complaints were eventually dismissed.Don’t speak to HR, don’t trust them. I’m conducting an investigation."No one ever trains you to be a whistleblower. During this time, I felt exhausted from waking up in the middle of the night, angry, sad and terrified.

I first approached the chief executive and three directors with my allegations and concerns in late January 2015 and then repeatedly up to May 2015. It fell on deaf ears. More than 40 emails were sent with not one response.
