Police fired pepper bullets into the crowd and at least 180 arrests were made as residents protested Beijing’s proposed laws which would outlaw insulting China’s national anthem.

Hong Kong’s Chief Executive Carrie Lam attempted to reassure citizens about the laws, saying they should wait to see the details before protesting too strongly. The bill is expected to pass but authorities are still unsure how it will be implemented. Image: AP
