New South Wales Premier GladysB has defended her government's proposal to freeze pay increases for up to 400,000 public sector workers - including health workers - saying it was the 'least worst' option for the state.

New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian has defended her government's proposal to freeze pay increases for up to 400,000 public sector workers - including health workers - saying it was the "least worst" option for the state. "This is not a good option for us, but it is the least worst option," she said. Ms Berejiklian pointed to the Labor governments in Queensland and Victoria who had also implemented some variation of the policy.

"All states are going through the same thing; The national government is going through the same thing." "I appreciate the challenge it brings, but I ask people to consider the options before us because our government does have to make difficult decisions if this doesn't get through." The premier was unwilling to outline how her government would proceed if the proposal was voted down. NSW Labor and the cross-bench have already indicated they would reject the proposal.

GladysB Maybe for her but what about the front line workers. You forgot about them Gladys B. After all they didn’t really help anyone get through this.

GladysB It'd be nice if politicians put a freeze on their own pay increases, esp. in these circumstances.

GladysB I remember the 1990s when you were just happy to still have your job let alone a pay rise!

GladysB 100% support this. We're all in this together! Remember? That means nobody gets any special treatment, we must all carry the burden.

GladysB Tone deaf

GladysB Work Choices. How can unions trust Morrison after this ?

NSW govt met with backlash over public sector pay freeze | Sky News AustraliaThe New South Wales government is trying to win support for its public sector pay-rise freeze. \n\nThe decision – which would see 400,000 public servants go without a pay-rise for 12 months - was met with a wave of criticism when announced on Wednesday. \n\nNSW Opposition leader Jodi McKay said the move would be a “punch in the guts” for those who worked on the frontline throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. \n\nState Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said the move was vital if New South Wales was to save current jobs in the public sector and create new jobs in the private sector. \n\nThe move, if successful, would come with the guarantee there would be no forced redundancies in the public sector other than senior executives. \n\nThe proposal, which would save an estimated $3 billion, will be reliant on support in the Upper House. Many have had NO PAY for three months & they'd have to pay for it. Anyone who aposes this shows their total disregard for struggling taxpayers at the hands of government mismanagement, sack anyone who does. Suffering for their art: creative accounting!?

Public servant wage freeze an insult to essential workers: ACTU | Sky News AustraliaACTU president Michele O’Neil says a 12-month wage freeze for the NSW public sector is an insult to thousands of essential workers who have worked to get the state through the coronavirus crisis. \n\n“That decision really does fly in the face of the very amazing work the public sector in all states has done. To think that health workers, nurses, firefighters, police, ambos and thousands of other workers are being thanked by getting a pay freeze, is a terrible decision by the NSW premier,” Ms O’Neil told Sky News. \n\n“Of course I agree there needs to be extra money spent on frontline services, but not at the expense of taking money out of the pay packets of the very people who’ve got us through this crisis.”\n\nNSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced a freeze for all 410,00 public sector employees on Wednesday and insisted nobody would be forced out of their job if they worked for the state government. \n\nMs O’Neil said Premier Berejiklian was just creating a “false economy”. \n\n“It’s bad for the economy and for small business ... I think (Ms Berejiklian) has got the fundamentals wrong,” she said. MicheleONeilAU Maybe she can donate her exorbitant wages or stop taking Union funds from members while the economy recovers.... NSW Premier freezes public sector pay for 12 monthsBreaking: NSW public sector pay will be frozen for 12 months, as the state deals with the economic effects of the coronavirus crisis, Premier Gladys Berejiklian has announced So they freeze people pay but this politicians won’t take a pay cut...yeah that’s really prioritising who’s more essential politicians sitting in their asses doing nothing over thousands of workers trying to keep the economy running and saving lives 🤦🏻‍♀️🤨 Why don’t the politicians take a pay cut, stop pay rises for high pay grades and make sure the health and education staff get their pay rise! But, clearly this exempts all those who have turned up everyday throughout this pandemic at risk to themselves and their families? 'Essential worker exemption'? Because I am certain the state would want to acknowledge those that have kept us safe and well

NSW land tax proposal 'not a bad micro-reform': Mark Latham | Sky News AustraliaNSW One Nation leader Mark Latham says the proposed introduction of a new method of taxation would give people the option to “choose” between the old stamp tax and a new land tax. \n\nMr Latham said instead of paying a large amount of money up-front in stamp duty taxes, potential buyers could opt for a second option to pay a reduced amount of money each year in land tax for the period where they owned the property. \n\nHe said this would in fact “benefit those who move around regularly” and would not negatively impact those who intend to put down roots in and live in a single residence for an extended period of time.\n\nWhile, Sky News host Rita Panahi said a land tax was “a terrible idea” and the only reason state government’s were doing it was to “increase revenue,” Mr Latham said the new system could be beneficial for homeowners.\n\n“The problem with stamp duty is that it punishes mobility and is a big upfront tax which stops people from moving around,” he told Sky News host Paul Murray. \n\n“In our modern economy mobility is a good thing, so I think opening up an option for people to pay in the second stream a smaller amount of land tax every year is not a bad micro-reform”. \n A land tax is unfair people have already paid their stamp duty, they will effectively more than double taxed. The proposal comes from the Liberals who always claim they are for lower taxes 🙄. What next? A GST rise? They really want to raise the great big tax on everything. Either way the extortion will continue. In WA we already pay both Land Tax and Stamp Duty.
