A new app is making Australians take a closer look at their hearts as it gives insight into the health age of the vital organ. 9News

The simple heart age calculator has already been used by more than half a million Australians since its launch early last year and more are being encouraged to try it out to see what is happening with their own hearts.

"It asks them questions about their risk factors," Heart Foundation Risk Reduction Manager Natalie Raffoul told 9News.Of more than 360,000 Australians whose results have so far been analysed, nearly 80 per cent had an older "heart age" than their actual age.When 59-year-old nurse Helen Hartney used the app, she was surprised at the result she got.
