The implementation of hardline COVID-19 restrictions stopping people from fishing or going outside “don’t make biological sense” when it comes to the “getting or the giving” of the virus, according to ANU Professor Peter Collignon.

“This virus mainly transmits inside when you’ve got poor ventilation and people close together,” he told Sky News host Andrew Bolt. Restrictions which respond to these sorts scenarios we should “keep on,” but a number of restrictions have “not been needed”.

“Some governments, and I think Victoria was particularly going for elimination, which I think unfortunately is unlikely,” he said. Low level community transmission of the coronavirus “is the best we are going to get”.
