A package to boost residential construction is in the works as government estimates predict a reduction of up to 50 per cent in the housing industry due to COVID-19. aclennell

A package to boost residential construction is in the works as government estimates predict a reduction of up to 50 per cent in the housing industry due to COVID-19. Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell said there are concerns the housing market could find itself in short supply in a few years if construction does not continue through the crisis. “Government estimates put the decline in that industry at between 30-50 per cent without government intervention in this crisis,” he said.

“Apart from the massive economic problem that would create, if we do not keep the supply going, there will be a shortage of housing in a couple of years and massive problems with house prices and housing affordability again.” “Not being ruled in or ruled out is the prospect of new homeowner grants, a grant to assist you to buy a new home. This exists in some states for first homeowners at the moment but could be expanded.

aclennell No point working when Govt lets the Banks lie in court to steal the property & everything you work for- I'll let Govt pay for my welfare income & Govt supplied housing- This is how the Banks offload the cost of their crimes onto society & the Govt permits this FRAUD

aclennell Good social policy.

aclennell I’m a first home buyer even with a 50k boost you’re still looking at 400-450k loan if prices remain where they are. And there’s no guarantee that the ass won’t drop out of the market in a few years when it all falls in a hole. Leaving someone like me in big debt negative equity👎🏻

aclennell No it's not because of Covid-19, it's because of the Fascist Government shutting down the Economy How dumb are people?

aclennell Call it the CCPVIRUS....go ahead...i dare ya.

aclennell Yep let’s load young people up with massive debts. Gotta keep the debt driven property Ponzi scheme going. At least we know there is no such thing as free markets anymore.

Australia’s reduced emissions ‘ruining ABC’s fear narrative’ | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Chris Kenny says the deadly coronavirus pandemic has been “an unwanted interruption” to the ABC’s “normal fear-mongering, alarmism and evangelism on global warming”. \n\nMr Kenny said following the bad bushfire season, the ABC was using the disasters which were observed “to ramp up its climate change campaigning”. \n\nHowever, this was “rudely interrupted” by the breaking of the drought and the COVID-19 health crisis. \n\nMr Kenny referenced a recent Four Corners report which had “former politicians and leading public servants lamenting the demise of a carbon price, and emissions trading scheme, a carbon tax .... whatever you want to call it”. \n\nHe said the program’s main focus was “really about climate policy” but omitted “some crucial facts”. \n\nHe said the program “didn't want to mention that we're actually reducing emissions (as) that would ruin the narrative”. \n\nMr Kenny said “the big lie” being spruiked, “that abolishing our carbon tax has somehow hurt us with a hotter climate is just tosh, it is not supported by facts, by science, by rational argument, or by reality”. \n\nImage: Getty Where is the investment in FOSSIL FUELS ? If Trump ‘talks something up, journalists will pan it’ | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Chris Kenny says many in the media “only see politics and particularly the politics of Donald Trump” and will talk down anything the President spruiks to combat the coronavirus pandemic. \n\nPresident Trump recently revealed he has been taking hydroxychloroquine for 'two weeks' as a coronavirus preventative.\n\nThe move was widely criticised within circles of the media, warning over the use of a drug not approved as a COVID-19 preventative. \n\n“On my programs I've interview doctors, professors, researchers and pharmacists about this drug, because it could hardly be more interesting and pertinent, and facts should be our friends,” Mr Kenny said. \n\nHowever, because “Trump spruiks the drug, journalists talk it down,” Mr Kenny said. \n\n'There seem to be plenty in the media who hope the drug doesn't work, to prove Trump wrong'. \n\nImage: AP realDonaldTrump realDonaldTrump realDonaldTrump is a carnival barker not a spruiker realDonaldTrump That doesn’t make sense.

‘Parochialism pushed’ in media on state border bans | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Chris Kenny says many within the media circles are “buying the provincial arguments” and are “backing the border bans” in stark defiance of the national chief medical officer's consistent advice. \n\nMr Kenny said the idea Australian states could “close off their borders to people from other states has astounded me from the start”. \n\nIt comes as mixed messages have been delivered by state premiers, with some pushing for sooner relaxation of social distancing regulations and borders bans, and others seeking their extension. \n\n“It shows how governments can overreach in a crisis, and the media can all too often get caught up in the moment, bordering on complicity,” Mr Kenny said. \n\n'But my prediction is the media will catch on quickly, as public attitudes change, and they'll be crucial in forcing backdowns'. \n\n\n Each state should be a different country Quarantine is when you restrict the movement of sick ppl. Tyranny is when you restrict the movement of healthy ppl. Why are some Australians acting as if they do not understand the difference? We are only one “She’ll be right mate” away from Losing ALL Our Sovereign Rights😡 How often are the media right these days. They have a poor read on people, every election in the last 3 years shows a disconnect. QLDLabor will suffer a heavy defeat, AnnastaciaMP listens to people in her own circle, thats a leaders biggest mistake thinking they know better.

JobKeeper miscalculation saving taxpayer money is ‘cause for celebration’ | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Peta Credlin says the government’s $60 billion JobKeeper blunder highlights the “farce of letting so-called experts run the show” whether it be state health or treasury officials 'who need a lesson in modelling”.\n\nOn Friday a significant reporting error had led Treasury to dramatically revise its projections for the Morrison government's JobKeeper program.\n\nAs a result, Treasury's revised estimate of the cost of the JobKeeper program is now just $70 billion, which is $60 billion less than forecast.\n\nMs Credlin said she definitely doesn’t think treasury is “infallible” given it has form in forecasting blunders, but in any case “why is it somehow Josh Frydenberg’s fault that these boffins made a $60 billion mistake”.\n\nShadow Treasurer Jim Chalmers along with Opposition leader Anthony Albanese have strongly criticised both the prime minister and Treasurer Josh Frydenberg for the error.\n\n“It says everything about Labor, that even today, they're still up in arms, about a government program that now only has to borrow half of what they thought, rather than celebrate the fact, it means the taxpayer is $60 billion dollars better off, plus interest.”\n\nShe said there really is “only one conclusion;” experts aren’t always correct, and “when you don’t have to borrow the money you thought you might have, that’s a saving”.\n\n“And saving taxpayers money is always cause for celebration in my book, and not as Labor suggest, an opportunity to just borrow it anyway and spend up big, whether we need to or not.”\n\nImage: Getty\n So if you don't want to let experts run the show, there's always Peta Credlin. Spend the $60 billion on rebuilding the manufacturing sector. Create jobs and become less dependent imports for essential products like tyres. Invest in projects that will generate a long term Return on Investment. Seems more likely that the govt erred purposefully on the high side, given the ratings agency review of our triple A rating. And the opposition to stupid to pick up the blue.

Australia 'risking US relationship' over 'Victoria's secretive agreement with China' | Sky News AustraliaThe Australian's Dennis Shanahan says Victoria's government has 'effectively signed a secretive agreement with a foreign government' which has all sorts of potential implications 'for national security and international relations'. \n\nVictoria has confirmed it will push ahead with its plan to sign up to China’s US$1.4 trillion infrastructure program.\n\nThe Belt and Road Initiative is designed to link China with Asia, Europe and Africa via a massive infrastructure investment that will see the widespread construction of railways, motorways and ports.\n\nChina claims the deal will be mutually beneficial, but the federal government has criticised Victoria for signing up for the deal citing possible security implications.\n\nMr Shanahan said the 'message was very clear from the US' following recent comments made by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo discussing the issue with Sky News. \n\nUS Secretary of State Mike Pompeo issued a stern warning over Victoria’s Belt and Road deal with China, telling Sky News the US will “simply disconnect” from Australia if it affects America's telecommunications. \n\nMr Pompeo said he wasn’t aware of the specific details of the agreement but warned the US “will not take any risks”. \n\n“We will not take any risks to our telecommunications infrastructure, any risk to the national security elements of what we need to do with our Five Eyes partners,” he said.\n\n'The message is there for Victoria and for the rest of Australia,' Mr Shanahan said. \n\nImage: AP \n\n JoeDMillard Who the hell does Andrew's think he is?
