'Put the weapons down': PM calls for ceasefire to end IR deadlock | Sky News AustraliaPrime Minister Scott Morrison is calling for a ceasefire between unions and businesses as he pushes to end decades of political deadlock on industrial relations. \n\nIndustrial Relations Minister Christian Porter will hold a series of working groups focused on award simplification, enterprise agreement design, conditions for casuals and fixed-term employees, compliance and greenfields agreements covering new enterprises.\n\nSpeaking with Sky News on Wednesday, Mr Morrison did not shy away from the comparison to Labor prime minister Bob Hawke’s 1980 Accords. \n\n“You take your lesson in politics wherever they are and in times like this, the most difficult economic times we’ve faced since the great depression, then you have got to bring people together to find new solutions,” he said. \n\n“In industrial relations and workplace relations we’ve been spinning wheels for quite a period of time and that is not going to help us get people back into work.”\n\nMr Morrison is hoping the plan to “get everyone together” will be a circuit breaker for industrial relations reform. \n\nACTU Secretary Sally McManus said unions would come to the table with an open mind. \n\n“I think for a long time we’ve been in our corners and seen things through a prism of work choices really and we’ve always been concerned that employers will just be all about taking rights off workers,” she said. \n\n“If we approach it in a different way and we don’t see it that way and that’s not the attitude of the employers well I think we can look at it and approach it in a different way than we have for the last 20 years.”\n\nMr Morrison said he hoped talks would conclude in September with an agreement ready for the October budget. \n\nImage: Getty ScottMorrisonMP When he is losing he calls for a cease fire? Fuck that - the LNP have been waging non-stop war on unions and workers for decades. All on behalf of the business community. ScottMorrisonMP He needs to start with the Dutton and Christensen wing of his own broad church. He will need to make some kind of sacrifice before I believe in this miracle. ScottMorrisonMP Companies and unions should have been working together for the betterment of all involved anyway. Unfortunately Unions are politically driven. This has to stop. Unions working for disruption and their own ideology/pay checks also has to be stopped.

Labor accuses government of using IR reform as a 'marketing ploy' | Sky News AustraliaLabor backbencher Peter Khalil says he holds concerns the Prime Minister’s push to end the industrial relations deadlock is nothing more than a “marketing ploy”. \n\nScott Morrison has called for the unions and businesses to come together to hash out a deal on reform ahead of the October budget. \n\nWhile the unions have been receptive to the call, Mr Khalil told Sky News he questioned if Mr Morrison’s bid was “genuine”. \n\n“The prime minister can try and emulate Bob Hawke all he wants … but Bob spent years leading up to the accord in the work, in the relationships that he built with both unions and business, so my question really is this another marketing ploy from Scotty from Marketing or is it really genuine,” he said. \n\n“Because if it is genuine there is going to have to be some serious commitment by the prime minister to make compromises. \n\n“It’s not just about getting unions and business in the same room, it’s about actually making some big calls and having to actually make some genuine compromises, commitments to actual reform.” PeterKhalilMP Really! Good work relations means high productivity and a happy workforce. Happy boss, happy life. Militant unions normally cause work closures and lead to poor productivity or reduced work forces. Need to stop antagonistic bullshit in the workplace. PeterKhalilMP Of course they believe that. Actually this is a slap in the face for Labor because McManus is willing to go to the table. It shows Labor are left out of the circle even by their own. 😂😂 PeterKhalilMP 'nothing more than a “marketing ploy”'...you mean like JobSeeker, JobKeeper, JobMaker, Tony Abbott Indigenous Affairs Envoy, Barnaby Joyce Drought Envoy, Scott Cam Careers Ambassador? Scott Morrison is not a Prime Minister he's a 2nd rate marketing spiv. ScottyFromMarketing

If Trump ‘talks something up, journalists will pan it’ | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Chris Kenny says many in the media “only see politics and particularly the politics of Donald Trump” and will talk down anything the President spruiks to combat the coronavirus pandemic. \n\nPresident Trump recently revealed he has been taking hydroxychloroquine for 'two weeks' as a coronavirus preventative.\n\nThe move was widely criticised within circles of the media, warning over the use of a drug not approved as a COVID-19 preventative. \n\n“On my programs I've interview doctors, professors, researchers and pharmacists about this drug, because it could hardly be more interesting and pertinent, and facts should be our friends,” Mr Kenny said. \n\nHowever, because “Trump spruiks the drug, journalists talk it down,” Mr Kenny said. \n\n'There seem to be plenty in the media who hope the drug doesn't work, to prove Trump wrong'. \n\nImage: AP realDonaldTrump realDonaldTrump realDonaldTrump is a carnival barker not a spruiker realDonaldTrump That doesn’t make sense.

Reminds us of how few Aussies stricken so severely by coronavirus that they're in literal ICU. Not sure of exact number but I suspect it's much less than 100. OTOH, thousands of businesses, some people literally *dead* from massively OTT lockdown.
