Sky News host Chris Smith says even if Australia goes "broke" and lives "in the dark" it won't change the temperature of the planet, stating emphatically that the Greens "need to get that fact through their scrawny heads". "Fire ratings Australia-wide were reset in 2009... they invented 'Catastrophic' then. We never had that term before. So it's not such a long history," he said.

"No drought is connected to the increase in average world temperatures." Mr Smith said the 1800s were a "snapshot of drought in Australia" with "extreme losses, extremely dry and fire-prone". "So what the hell are the Greens up to trying to shame the government over drought and fires?" he asked. "Not only are they shocking opportunists... scoring clear political points as homes are destroyed and people die...

Chris Smith...that intellectual giant ffs

I like this guy.

Despite Australia being the 3rd biggest exporter of fossil fuel CO2 potential (as the world's biggest coal exporter) - it's only 3.5% of our GDP and can be replaced with other industries (e.g. hydrogen exports, based on our vast natural resources).

Problem is that Greens and climate change fanatics are blinded by their own ignorance and self importance - to change their view leaves them without a foundation or credibility so they propagate the lie rather than admit they are wrong

Hey Chris don’t want action on climate change? Think about immigrating to Mars, you could take Murdoch and his crew with you. We like it here and want our planet to survive.

Thanks Chris, well said. It is such a shame that there is space within the Government for uneducated numskulls.

Nice tantrum.

Where does sky find these morons.

Well he is right...

Hey Chris, it’s a collective thing not just Australia. Do you believe if the rest of the world did what you saying will help the planet, that is the question?

Sky News needs to get the message into their arrogant bucketmouth presenter's heads that the current situation is caused by attitude and information. His. Theirs.

drwaheeduddin Pls make your point emphatically.

That is true smith

chrissmithonair Some of the comments by the leftard green swill is frightening to think the dumbarse excretion like that vote.

I’m alright Jack keep your hands off of my stack. What an ignorant self-centred view.

So lets just concrete the lot then? Or, just sell all the raw material to let someone else torch the lot? A tiny amount of fore thought might help, then again probably not. You call that wafer thin slice a brain, scrawny brain would be a compliment.

the Greens aren't in power. I don't think they need to get anything through their heads.

omg these charlatans are the ones who are dense. Ok look let’s assume climate change ISN’T real (here me out). Coal WILL run out. Oil WILL run out. Doesn’t it just make sense to change our sources of energy to something that WON’T run out? Oh wait, we need billionaires... 🤔

As usual none of these assertions are accurate.

It's not just what we do, it's what we sell that does the damage. All that coal sent overseas to fuel rising emissions makes Australia a pariah now. The rest of the world is abandoning coal-fired power and moving to renewables while we still insist on digging new mines.

We collect almost zero tax on $60 billion annual gas exports. When we get to 25 years exporting we wont have a cent to show for it. After 25 years exporting a similar amount Norway had $2500 billion saved. Thats a shit load of money. If we dont really benefit, why do it.

We are truly a country of stupids! Fibre optic Nbn with copper!!; still discussing a train to melb airport; idiots like Dean and Smith and Bolt and Cretin have a voice on tv: Roberts, Kelly, Beetrooter, Hanson, Scumbo have a voice in parliament: sometimes it’s all too much.

In real news today: Exclusive: email from government directs attendees at conference on climate adaptation to stay quiet on bushfire-climate link. auspol nswbushfire

Chris is right

Scrawny heads?

Yes he’s always taken no responsibility for his actions...Christmas parties included

So we’re fucked then? I’ll go & tell the grand-kiddies. 👶 🧒

Greens===insanity

Too soon to be attacking people who want action on climatechange. My home is under threat of burning. All advertisers should stop supporting Sky News. slpng_giants_oz

This is the under 2% club, Australia included. China and the USA must act, but so must we. And no one with a nuanced understanding of ClimateChange wants coal switched off tomorrow. 🇺🇸 rupertmurdoch frontmen need to read a book before you prattle on.

Until we stop relying on fossil fuels, will always be a backward polluting country

The solar minimum 25 suggests, according to NASA, that we are heading for a long cold period. ClimateEmergency

Sky News, Wankers.

Scrawny heads? Hhmm, I think it's clear who is the scrawny head.

They need to eat meat. That would help

Who is this 'Chris Smith' ?

Why not be one of the first countries to do something positive to reduce emissions or are we just that lazy & complacent? 🙄

Yes, and you pay this droog?

Just lots of vitriol and buzz words not a single credible rebuttal.

thepointscorer Idiot!

Bring on those blackouts

What is this monumental jumbled gibberish? Even Thatcher and Bush senior were demanding action over 30 years ago. Perhaps if people like Chris got on board, we wouldn't be facing a tougher transition now.

Perhaps Chris Smith could explain to everyone why human intervention cannot change the climate of the planet Time to call out the doubters and get them to explain why we can't possibly be the cause instead of snippet grabbing as justification for saying climate change isn't real

You see why you can’t have a sensible debate when CC deniers spew out this rubbishy

Fact: increasing atmospheric CO2 has decreasing impact on atmospheric temperature. Fact: solar activity has the highest impact on atmospheric temperature. Fact: CO2 is used to make oxygen through photosynthesis via trees and plants on land 50% and phyto-plankton and algae in sea.

Amazing how other countries are managing the transition to clean energy without all the drama, the hand wringing and the fear campaigning - guess we Aussies are just too stupid.

Ditto for the UK.

Greens need to get down to the Chinese embassy ASAP

Chris aught to have some professionalism and stop being such a grub

But your kids will be alive, what don't you get?

Dumb

Hallelujah moment, but will they listen.

What a joke. So if every country took the same view the planet would be completely doomed. Get real or get the F* out.

Wouldn't get anything through their heads, solid bone all the way through...

Ok Boomer

'Everyone except us should do something'. That seems to sum up conservative thought.

Who?

if Australia goes 'broke' IT WILL BE BECAUSE OF THE CLIMATECRISIS Hey Chris How much are those Fires costing us BTW? The Cost of burning coal

You keep repeating that LIE Chris.. This is the REALITY it's the reason why we are seeing RenewableEnergy records smashed daily. auspol auspol

Luddite Cretin.

Chris Smith AND his far-right propaganda platform of are stifling truth, dividing the country, spreading misinformation and pandering to their Mining and Fossil Fuel Company mates.. Spreading UnAustralian lies. AusShame auspol MurdochAgain AmericaStyleHateSpeech

They KNOW it won’t.

He’s exactly right 👍

Time for everyone to THINK COMMONSENSE! We will be dependable on Coal for a long time, so we MUST keep coal fire power stations working 100%. If Renewables are so brilliant, why aren’t private companies in a hurry to prove that. We have a long transition period B4 the end of coal

I'm not 'Green' but the same science that lets you drive and fly lets us know that our activity has caused the warming and extreme conditions. It's been public knowledge since the 90's and now we are living with the consequences.

Build more coal, nuclear and gas fired power stations, and get rid of wind and solar power.

Australia doesn’t need to “go broke” nor “live in the dark” to contribute effectively to tackling global warming. Can someone please help Chris Smith get that fact through his mentally deficient head? Future generations are not interested in his bullshit.

Is this Chris Smith a smart man or what

Is he a scientist as well as a tv host? Yes, why try & make things better when we can just continue to dig up a shittonne of coal for 3rd world countries to burn and make lots of money for foreign owned corporations Why the f**k would we do that fuckoff

Right wing stacked Sky News at it again yawn.

Coal-Fired Power Stations are marching on.

Unmitigated cookery.

At least we would never have to see or hear anything from the RWNJ'S on sky news if were living in the dark...... What a win that would be....

No one is going broke and living in the dark. Climate change requires collective action, we are not acting alone - we are lagging most of the world.

the far left actually thinks that giant Tesla batteries can store all the electricity, this is how brainwashed these people who believe in this hoax are ClimateEmergencyHoax
