Confidence among Australian retailers has dropped to its lowest point in six years in the lead up to Christmas, a new survey has revealed.

Just 62 per cent of retailers are expecting sales to grow during the festive season, down from 80 per cent a year earlier - the weakest result since 2013.

The survey published by Deloitte suggested a series of economic jump-starts failed to bolster Australia's retail sector amid competition from cheaper global online entrants like Amazon. Image: Getty

Thank god for the LNP and their brilliant trickle down economics. Still waiting for my money.....

Not possible, the great economists are in government. By their own reckoning!

Come on who on twitter will admit they fell for this BS and Voted LNP? auspol

You mean Labor and the Greens wrecked retail and Christmas as well?!

We're not all size 14. Big blousy outfits are for the overweight women. Being small it's hard to buy clothes. Plenty of cheap clothes around now so women not looking for smart casual wear. Child care, mortgages, power bills etc are of greatest concern. Not expensive clothes.

This could be good news. If people are saving their pennies and not buying Chinese made goods then China's emissions will decline and we'll all be saved from climate change. Yippee! Every acid cloud has a silver lining! 😀

How good are liberal recessions 😂 😂 😂

Retail confidence at it lowest point in six years, wages stagnant for six years, economy stalled for six years. Hmmm.. what happened six years ago? Liberal nationals came to power & immediately killed business & consumer confidence, arrogance that will drive economy to recession

Because everyone is screwed by govt every which way👿 power, petrol, gas, rents through the roof noone has had a decent payrise in years while everything has gone up, no disposable income👿

So we won't see this in December ?

Voting against Pauline Hanson's milk price protection bill to suck up to the Big End of Town will help the National Party no end. Isn't it their very own constituency that will suffer most from climate change? Those people are not ignorant.

The government 'must do more' to reduce bushfire prone dry fuel loads | Sky News AustraliaFormer CSIRO scientist David Packham has urged the government to do more to combat the “most important” factor contributing to the current bushfire crisis - the build up of very dry fuel.\n\n'I can’t quite understand why we are so silly as to allow the amount of fuel to build up that it does,'Mr Packham told Sky News host Andrew Bolt. \n\nMr Packham said the “hot, dry weather” and the “low humidity” have been a crucial cause of this year’s devastating fires. \n\nFuel is live and dead vegetation, including twigs, leaves and bark, that accumulates over time.\n\n“The only thing that people can control is the amount of fuel and that is what we’re not doing”. \n\n“The next important thing is the emissions,” Mr Packham added.\n\n“There will always be emissions'. \n\n“The idea that we can stop [emissions] means that one’s got to have a lot of influence with God to tell him to turn off the lightning for a long time”. \n\n\nImage: Getty At last the nail has been found. Finally someone with some sense Lighting = emissions?
