An eight-year-old German boy takes the family car in the early hours of the morning, with his mother reportedly explaining to police that he is regularly allowed behind the wheel... of bumper cars and go-karts.

An eight-year-old boy in Germany has been picked up by police after he took his parents' Volkswagen Golf on a joyride that reached speeds of 140 kilometres per hour.The child's mother reportedly said her son had driven bumper cars and go-kartsPolice said the child was found at a motorway rest area heading towards the city of Dortmund, about 51 kilometres away from the town of Soest, where he lives.

They said he burst into tears when he was found, and told them he had just wanted to go for a little ride.
