Travel agency Flight Centre will close up to 100 stores and has scrapped its earnings guidance due to the coronavirus outbreak

The company said on Friday that the stores will close before June 30, and sales staff will transfer to other stores, as part of moves to slash costs.

Management told the sharemarket that while early trends had been in line with expectations, the virus' spread and travel restrictions made it more difficult to predict the full year impact. The guidance on February 27 was full-year profit before tax of $240 million to $300 million, down from the previous range of $310 million to $350 million.

Yeah blame it on the PM. It can’t possibly be because of your woeful service and the fact that it’s easier and cheaper to book on line. Bye bye - you won’t be missed.

Patriotic employment not a thing, then? Seemed like solid policy, really.

Flight Centre closes 100 stores across Australia due to business impact from coronavirus fearsIn a statement to the Australian Securities Exchange, travel company Flight Centre is closing 100 stores across Australia in response to the coronavirus. Absolute mess. Serves the dogs right. If there`s a positive coming out of all this. it`s that many cut-price/discount airlines may go out of business. Most, if not all, exist on the flimsiest of margins whilst items such as quality service and, licensed maintenance is non-existent.

Coronavirus spreads in Europe despite heavy containment effortsItaly announces closure of all stores except pharmacies and grocery stores, as the UK and Spain introduce more stringent measures to tackle the coronavirus outbreak. Probably many Italians still grow their own food, my Italian grandma was right when she said, one never knows what lies around the next corner, living through WW2 made her wise, RIP grandma. Italy - People need to think - who is going to deliver and manufacture the food and produce for the shops and chemists, let alone manufacture packaging!! This isn't containment, its growth slowing to not overwhelm health services
