Italy's Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has announced that all stores except pharmacies and grocery stores are being closed nationwide in a new wave of drastic measures to stop the spread of the coronavirus.On Wednesday, 200 people died from coronavirus in ItalyMr Conte thanked the public for cooperating with the already unprecedented travel and social restrictions that took effect on Tuesday but said Italy must"go another step''.
In addition to store closures, companies must close all their departments that are not essential to production. Services such as hairdressers and beauty parlours will also be closed, along with bars and restaurants that cannot guarantee they can keep a distance of at least one metre between customers.
"We will only be able to see the effects of this great effort in a couple of weeks," Mr Conte said, referring to the daily bulletins announcing the number of new cases and deaths.
Only Italy and now Denmark have moved to contain the Coronavirus in Europe. India and Saudi have now moved too. Who will be last to join the international war on Covid19? Australia?
Considering how exposed Europe is to tourism it is hardly surprising that they have so many cases, Spring and Autumn are the busiest times for the 3-4 million Chinese who visit Italy each year. It makes you wonder if the incubation period for Coronavirus is more like 30 days.
