Britain's coronavirus vaccination tsar says the first generation of COVID-19 vaccines are 'likely to be imperfect' and might not prevent infection.

Britain's coronavirus vaccination tsar says the first generation of COVID-19 vaccines are "likely to be imperfect" and might not prevent infection.

"The first generation of vaccines is likely to be imperfect, and we should be prepared that they might not prevent infection but rather reduce symptoms, and, even then, might not work for everyone or for long."Bingham's comments carry significant weight because she reports directly to Prime Minister Boris Johnson and is plugged in to pharmaceutical companies around the globe.

The UK has also struck an agreement with AstraZeneca to supply a neutralising antibody cocktail – similar to the drug used to treat US President Donald Trump – as a backup option for vaccines.
