Opinion: That first year of fatherhood is like nothing else. You don’t really know where you’re going, there are constant ups and downs, and just when you think you’re enjoying it, things can get overwhelming – fast

The most helpful thing has been making sure everything is a collaborative effort - my wife and I both make time to catch up and check-in.That first year is like nothing else. Similar to being on a rollercoaster with infinite tracks that are constantly changing. You don’t really know where you’re going, there are constant ups and downs, and just when you think you’re enjoying it, things can get overwhelming – fast.

I discovered fairly quickly none of that other stuff matters. Yes, we do need a job and money to live and have essentials. However, we already had enough material things. What my family really needed was the invisible stuff you can’t buy. The important stuff that actually matters: fun, silliness, love, care, and compassion.
