Canberra United Football Club, a team with a rich history and notable players, is facing the possibility of collapse due to financial difficulties. The club has cited rising costs, low funding levels, and being managed by governing body Capital Football as contributing factors. The 2023-24 season could be their last.

In many ways, women's football in Australia has never been bigger. The 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup broke viewing records, sold out stadiums, and motivated women and girls across the country to join their local teams. But despite the surge in support for the sport, one team with an impressive history is on the verge of collapse.

Read said she believes women's teams have historically not received adequate government funding compared with men's teams. "There is a very long way to go before there's any level of equality of traditional funding mechanisms," she said. In a statement posted online on 26 March , Capital Football CEO Samantha Farrow said the organisation wants Canberra United to continue playing in the A-League in 2024/25 and beyond.

Port Adelaide Football Club Plans to Exit SANFL CompetitionThe Port Adelaide Football Club will once again lead the way in trying to achieve ‘equalisation’ for their reserves side, with continued plans to exit the SANFL competition they have been a part of for 155 years. With the public backing of rival club the Adelaide Crows, as well as Western Australia’s West Coast, the trio – potentially along with Fremantle – seem primed to join the other 14 AFL-listed clubs in a joint competition sooner rather than later. Fremantle, who are aligned with proud WAFL club the Peel Thunder, are the outlier in the pack of four clubs yet to join the VFL, having kept a less public profile on the matter. However, it is understood that Peel would be in support of a national competition, in a move that would allow them to showcase their own homegrown talent without intervening on the best interests of Fremantle’s AFL side. Peel chief executive Paul Lekias spoke on the issue last year, emphasising that the move would not necessarily be an easy one
