If current weather trends continue, Australia's Bureau of Meteorology says it's possible a new La Niña system could develop, meaning another wetter-than-average year.

Forecasts of a wet spring in Australia are already catching the attention of commodity analysts.

"If we get the benefits of La Nina in terms of a wetter-than-average season then it is likely to be drier and warmer in the Northern Hemisphere and South America.Trifecta of good seasonsFarmers like Neil Westcott at Parkes are licking their lips at the forecast of a wet spring."It's been an almost perfect winter, albeit very cloudy and overcast, and the crops are a little bit behind.

"That's very rare, it's not a partnership that comes off very often. But we won't 'Jonah it'," Mr Westcott said., and the cereals are slowing getting that way too."
