There’s been a furious response from both sides to Melburnians who rejected COVID-19 tests during a doorknocking “blitz” on so-called “hot spots”.

Some say the tests should be mandatory in suburbs like Reservoir and Broadmeadows and Brunswick West where community transmission of the coronavirus is on the rise.

“If people aren’t sick or needing to go to hospital, then guess what? We don’t have a problem,” one person wrote.Another person wrote that people shouldn’t be bothered in their own homes. But Professor Adrian Esterman, an epidemiologist and biostatistician from the University of South Australia, is baffled by the response.“It would not be difficult to test everyone in the Melbourne hot spot areas with the help of staff from other states and the ADF,” he said.

Victoria recorded another 30 cases of coronavirus on Friday, adding to 33 new cases the day before. It marked 10 consecutive days of double-digit increases in the state. The Daniel Andrews-led Labor Government earlier this week announced a testing blitz in suburbs including Keilor Downs, Broadmeadows, Maidstone, Albanvale, Sunshine West, Hallam, Brunswick West, Fawkner, Reservoir and Pakenham.“We’re not enforcing testing,” she told reporters.

Melbourne's latest outbreak has prompted some soul-searching — and the search for excusesAllow me to apologise for the problem my fellow Melburnians now create for us all. I have no idea how this place, which has had some of the toughest distancing and control measures in the country, is the home of COVID-19 spikes and hot-spot suburbs. Yes, as predicted a lot of victorians became complacent and this is exactly what happens. Come on people, I thought you all had common sense, it’s such a let down! “Success breeds complacency” - so does watching thousands of people gather without recourse. The cause is 100% valid but the pandemic doesn’t stop for anything That's about as poor of an article ever written. You say nothing helpful, draw zero logical conclusions and reference another and four corners story about mismanagement of an aged care facility in NSW! WTF?

Victoria may force returning travellers to have coronavirus test, seeking legal adviceThe Victorian government has confirmed it is seeking advice about forcing returned travellers in hotel quarantine to get tested for COVID-19 after it emerged a third are refusing tests. Mandatory testing is the only way to pin point clusters, diagnose and treat. No testing = No cases. Mandatory testing should have been implemented months ago. Geez, make them agree before they travel. Why do they need to get advice. Dictator Dan makes up the rules.
