ANALYSIS: Melbourne's latest outbreak has prompted some soul-searching — and the search for excuses

I have no idea how this place, which has had some of the toughest distancing and control measures in the country, is the home of COVID-19 spikes and hot-spot suburbs.About five weeks ago it was clear to me that we in Melbourne had cured COVID-19. We must have, because we were bloody-well behaving like it. Social distancing suddenly died.

That can't be us.

I can tell you, it's prompted some soul searching — and a desperate search for rational excuses: it's colder here in Melbourne — the virus thrives in the cold! We're testing more here than anywhere else — you're inevitably going to turn up more cases! . In any case, here we are, going backwards when we thought we were moving into the same kind of uncertain future as the rest of you.

Victorian health authorities are testing widely to try to tackle the rising number of COVID-19 cases.

If you feel at risk just leave the shop. The virus does not discriminate. Trust yourself. Respect and consideration for others is essential. Mask hands distance.

Another article said it was ‘a mystery’ why some suburbs were having an increase in cases, after reporting that some nationalities were ignoring social distancing guidelines

Any excuse but the obvious one.

All because Red Dan allowed his scummy lefty mates to gather & protest.

In all fairness this is happening all over Australia, social distancing....what social distancing. For the rest of us it may simply be a matter of time.

Some are behaving as if all others are infected by China COVID, your local doctor won't see you; police issue infringements to healthy people, world has gone crazy.

That's about as poor of an article ever written. You say nothing helpful, draw zero logical conclusions and reference another and four corners story about mismanagement of an aged care facility in NSW! WTF?

“Success breeds complacency” - so does watching thousands of people gather without recourse. The cause is 100% valid but the pandemic doesn’t stop for anything

Yes, as predicted a lot of victorians became complacent and this is exactly what happens. Come on people, I thought you all had common sense, it’s such a let down!
