Victoria is getting legal advice about whether it can force returned travellers to be tested for coronavirus.
"Following yesterday's decision at National Cabinet, Victoria is getting legal advice to explore all options." Concerns erupted after Deputy Chief Health Officer Annaliese van Diemen revealed on Friday about 30 per cent of travellers refuse to be tested during their 14-day quarantine.National Chief Medical Officer Brendan Murphy said people in hotel quarantine needed to be tested at the start and end of their stint, and states had powers to make it happen.
Some of the 200 specialist medical and support personnel from the Australian Defence Force are understood to have arrived in Victoria to help with the state's coronavirus woes.People wait in line to receive a COVID-19 test at a Coronavirus pop-up testing facility in Broadmeadows, Melbourne.More cases of coronavirus are expected, with hundreds of Australians set to return from overseas in coming days to begin mandatory 14-day quarantine.
Despite the outbreak of coronavirus cases in parts of Melbourne, restrictions are being eased across Australia.
14 days is what you told us
Pauline and Clive will take personal freedom to refuse testing to the high courts eh😷
Oh no, please no... trumpism virus is spreading here 🙏😕😞
Rules are rules if you don't like the rules dont come home ,how simple is that🤣
PCR tests are not reliable with a false positive rate of more than 30%. All this for for a virus that hasn't even been isolated...Hmmm. maybe instead of seeking advice on how to force tests on people, they should investigate the PCR tests they're using, and their ineffectiveness.
Management of Australian borders are the direct responsibility of the Federal Government, and ADF. All dissatisfaction with the mismanagement should be directed to PeterDutton_MP directly!!! BorderFarce
Seeking advice ? Should of been done from the start Victorians are shocked this wasn’t happening a school kid would know to do this
All returning travellers refusing to test sign a waiver for medicare treatment for them and family members who contract covid-19. Pay up front any medical fees prior to treatment.
They should be tested before they board a flight. No test no flight
Test is non-specific and huge false positive rate - worse than useless.
Why? Why refuse? I don't get it.
So they should!
No problem. Hey, every other state, let's wall off these fools and let them rot. 🤷♂️
RobMax4 Simple make isolation period 1 month unless you have a COVID-19 test.
What don't people understand about a pandemic? You don't want to be tested....don't catch that flight to Australia. Taxpayers are paying for quarantine in hotels. Any time beyond the 14 days quarantine should be paid by person/s refusing testing.
If they want to come to Australia they should be tested or they can return overseas if they like!
It's a pandemic people, get tested if returning from overseas, or any form of travel or other activity where you may have been infected. If you're too selfish to think of others you may transmit to, then at least think of your own health.
Can’t believe it’s not compulsory to get tested upon returning back home, all States should have the same policy
Make it a condition of entry into the country. No testing, no entry. Send them back and make them pay for their quarantine stay and return flights. I bet they decide to take the test then
I don't understand why anyone would refuse to be tested. This is ridiculous. Testing is free. 🙄
Test them before boarding the plane... or they cant get on
There's got to be some seriously seedy motels in Broadmeadows just right for them. And feed them MacDonalds every meal (the veg happy meal) SBSNews auspol
WHY have they been allowed to refuse testing after returning from overseas? 🤬
Only now is legal advice being sought 🤷♂️ DanielAndrewsMP asleep at the wheel once again! COVID19Vic
Seeking advice.... Its only been months dicks
Why hasn’t this already been happening? And who is returning from travel atm?
Vic isn't the only place they're refusing to be tested & some states aren't even bothering. Hopefully clusters don't start up in other states. It's os return origins that lead to vic outbreaks!
If they refuse, send them to Christmas Island.
Keep them locked up unless they take a test. Or, make testing of returning travellers compulsory. 1/3 of returning travellers say 'no' to testing... WTF is going on Victoria?
Simple....don’t let them out until they do
This could be easily overcome by intended travelers signing a consent to be tested if wanting to return to Aus. It’s really not that complicated 😴
Why on earth would anyone refuse a test? They should be made to. It is a public health issue!
Follow trumps advice and stop testing. Then you wont have any cases. Might be hard to hide the bodies though
No test, no release from isolation. Also isolation accommodation is chargeable for stay after the 15th day & payable to hotel before release. Stop.this stupidity now.
Who are these returned overseas wankers refusing testing for Corona-19. Do they think we will let them loose to infect us. Push off imbeciles.
This shitt should have been sorted months ago
Do it! I bet they are mostly from India?!!
You can’t force people to be tested if they don’t want to
Why do they need to get advice. Dictator Dan makes up the rules.
Mandatory testing is the only way to pin point clusters, diagnose and treat. No testing = No cases. Mandatory testing should have been implemented months ago.
Geez, make them agree before they travel.
