After everything the voters of Eden-Monaro have been through in recent months, for many the biggest concern going into the by-election is jobs.

Spare a thought for the voters of Eden-Monaro in the coming week. Having endured drought, catastrophic bushfires and savage fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic in an area reliant on tourism, they now find themselves facing a federal by-election on Saturday, July 4.A by-election in Eden-Monaro, NSW, was called after the sitting Labor MP Mike Kelly stood down for health reasonsThe Eden-Monaro by-election is on Saturday July 4.

Traditionally, incumbent governments lose by-elections. However, last year's result was tight and partly decided by a personal vote of around 3 per cent for Dr Kelly, whoThere was an unseemly public tussle over who would run in the seat from the Coalition — high profile Liberal or possibly National candidates — before the local party opted for Fiona Kotvojs, who had given Dr Kelly a good run for his money last year.

The town of Eden has been hit not just by the bushfires and a collapse of tourism from cruise ships; the woodchip mill near the town was also damaged in the fires and has only just sent out its first couple of shiploads of product. Workers at the mill had mixed views of the Prime Minister and his record in the fires, as did many voters 7.30 spoke to.

"We have demonstrated right from the get-go that [for] those who have really needed the help, we've been there, straight away," he said. The local sports gear shop owner, Reg Ellis, told them he had only used his eftpos machine twice in 2020.

Haven't they suffered enough. Why is that a hole PM useless down there apart from promising more money that sounds good but will actually land in a mate of his hands, while a pittance actually goes to the Eden - Monaro communities. Say no to the LNP.

Pls enough of the same. AuspolSoCorrupt

Coronavirus updates LIVE: Qantas to sack 6000 workers as response to COVID-19 pandemic; Victoria case spike sparks ADF intervention as Australian death toll stands at 104It has been just over a week since Melbourne's coronavirus case numbers started to surge. Has it changed your behaviour? If so, how? Our coronavirus live blog is free for all readers. Get rolling updates here: I’m continuing to follow the guidelines to protect my family and my students. I’m not the expert so I’ll do as I’m told in this case. 🤞 I voted no because I never stopped taking precautions. It was clear all along to anyone paying attention that there were still cases around in my area (Moreland) and the lack of care I was seeing in others in public spaces made me more concerned not less. I’m continuing to be really careful. Planning for a longer period of not being able to get back to the office. These spikes are to be expected until we get a vaccine.
