Economists are urging the Queensland government to reconsider a multi-million-dollar public servants cash splash over fears it could send the state further into debt.

The Palaszczuk Government is set to hand out a $1,250 bonus to more than 200,000 Queensland public servants in an attempt to stimulate the economy.

However economists are pushing back against the Labor state government’s plan, saying public servants are more likely to use the money to pay off individual debt or add to their savings than inject it back into the economy. Image: News Corp Australia

It will send the state further into debt

826Maureen only 1 year to go keep digging that hole

She doesn’t care... wants to sabotage the economy as much as possible so she can blame the LNP later...

826Maureen So this is allegedly going to cost 250 mill dollars How does this compare to their drought relief funding Shameful QLDLabor Another nail in their coffin AnnastaciaMP

Bad news!

We can’t afford this yet AnnastaciaMP QLDLabor want to waste taxpayer $ on an Olympics. This is how much Labor hate Qlders. They literally do not care what we think or the consequences of their actions.

826Maureen Labor are insane.

Giving money away is piss poor public policy. Labor seems to be good at it, but if they must, give child care, dental or school vouchers so the $ aren’t squandered on booze and gambling.

Absolute nutcase stuff. WHY? Because it’s a great way to BUY VOTES!!! Pathetic.

WHY,,,,,, HAS THE TAX PAYERS OF QLD STILL RETAINING THE SERVICES OF THIS SUSPECTERD PERSON OF BEING SUSPECT,, IF YOU KNOW WHAT I THINK I KNOW WHAT IAM TALKING ,, I THINK

ffs the next state election can’t come soon enough.

The payment is part of an ongoing wage negotiation and I fail to see how $250m will impact debt substantially. Why don’t you ask the Governor of the RBA his thoughts and give the hysteria a rest.

No it will stimulate the economy.

Is that any different from Tax cuts for the rich and famous given by the Feds. No of course it’s different because the LNP can do no wrong with the economy. Bullshit.

Which public servants are getting more cash 💰🙀😲🤔 skynews

Labor governments lose elections when they run out of other people's money. Yet this government spends money they don't have as handouts to mates. Blatant corruption.

What is going on with QLD labor they know how to turn voters against them

Vote buying

Has the joint premier heard of this thing called 'the drought'... or maybe the thing that happened a week or so ago... you know, the bushfires? Pathetic.

Labor won’t listen because they scared they will lose the next election so they have to get all the wage rises they can now for the public servants and union members. Labor don’t give a crap about the debt

There corrupt!!!

All paid for by mining...

It’s not their money, it’s taxpayers so they waste it. No accountability of politicians in Australia.

They don’t care! It’s just a part of the game! They know that they’ll be out of office next year! So load upthe incoming government with as much debt as possible!

DGPetrie

When is the next QLD election? How is this decision not a bribe

If they don’t reconsider it will be the nail in her coffin next election. She really is taking the Piss with this waste of $250,000,000 rort. Is she really saying there isn’t a more worthy use of tax payer funds.
