US President Donald Trump says he would not shut down the US again in a second wave of COVID-19, while researchers say more than 35,000 lives could have been saved in the US had implemented social distancing measures one week earlier.

More than 35,000 lives would have been saved in the US if social distancing measures had begun just a week earlier than they actually did in mid-March, according to a new estimate by researchers at Columbia University.

"We are going to put out the fires, we're not going to close the country, we're going to put out the fire," Mr Trump said on Thursday, referring to a second wave. "Our results also indicate that without sufficient broader testing and contact tracing capacity, the long lag between infection acquisition and case confirmation masks the rebound and exponential growth of COVID-19 until it is well underway," they said.

The United States is the country hardest hit by the pandemic, with more than 1.5 million cases of infection and more than 93,000 deaths, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Applying the 'lockdown' approach to nature could help save species — and humanity - ABC NewsThere's a serious campaign underway to lock down huge swathes of the Earth's surface, to protect species and minimise the risk of another pandemic. Experts say it could also save humanity —but it risks increasing poverty and inequality, too. Australia-first study finds low transmission of COVID-19 in childrenAn Australian-first study has found very low transmission of COVID-19 in children, which researchers say should give parents confidence to send their children back to school. This is why the proles don't trust the establishment. You gaslight and lie constantly. You scared the shit out of everyone about kids and covid and now we know it's nonsense. This is why one day journalists will be killed by angry mobs. Not study, govonment funded propaganda. Used for justifying school reopening. It is against common sense. Flu and almost all diseases have same transmission in adults and children. COVID19Aus auspol Intro on iPad says study should give parents confidence to send kids back to school. But the expert quoted only says it shows HOSPITALS are safe - and Prof Roy says with only FOUR cases it shows nothing about wider transmission!. Tell your sub-editors to read the article first.

Parents urged to rethink lockdown drinking in front of childrenOne in five parents have started drinking daily, or every other day, in front of their children since the lockdown began, new statistics show. They were drinking the same prior, give or take. Just now they have nowhere to send their fuck trophies 👍🏻 The Wife and I will enjoy a drink or two together most nights. We were doing this before Covid. I think it's healthy for kids to see alcohol being enjoyed in moderation in a warm environment, but definitely not associated with a bad day. Haha what rubbish. SBS you are dribble.
