Anthony Albanese has called for a cap on political donations following revelations Clive Palmer gave a record $80 million to his United Australia Party ahead of the 2019 election

Mr Palmer said his campaign, which include a major advertising spend including across billboards, was behind a swing against Labor in Queensland and helped ensure Prime Minister Scott Morrison's win. The United Australia Party failed to get a candidate elected.

"This is an extraordinary abuse. But what we need is transparency. So we need real time donation reforms and disclosure," he said. "Why is it we're finding out now how much Clive Palmer put in?" He said there would be "interim measures" but when the 2030 target was last determined in 2015 and the next election is in 2022.

Mr Albanese said he thought Australia could still be exporting coal in 2050, adding it would be determined by global action and state agreements, though he saw the country's future as an "energy exporting superpower" for renewables.

People should realize that in past five elections with the amount of money the Unions spend Labor has received way more money from groups outside than liberals in terms of direct campaigning. GetUp also openly campaigns for them and its spending should also be monitored.

But he’s more then happy to let the unions and get up spend millions trying to get the ALP into government.

I guess you dont get many donations when majority of your supporters are on welfare.

No caps No donations of any size Govts should not be able be bought Donations = bribery

corp donation should be capped to $100k Now ads r so costly so LNP has to award contracts to donor n cronies Jobs for the boys $500k donation would buy him an ambassador

So what 80 million and don't win 1 seat why would u ban something that didn't work

Would Chinese billionaires stop giving Aldi shopping bags full of cash to the Labor party then?

How about we ban donations

Well, if Bloomberg wins the Dems nomination, I guess Albo won't then support the Democrats.

This guy is creepy , labour has the unions ,

I think there should only be public funding for political parties and it Gould depend on size of membership.

I call for Unions to stop donating to the Labor party. Why should unions support labor when the only thing They’ve done is increase the retirement and pension age for the very people who voted for them in manufacturing and labour intensive work.

AlexWodak There should be no political Donations full stop industry or lobby groups do not donate because of ideology they donate because they want something.

Why has Labor opposes The Greens on this for eons then?
