New South Wales premier Gladys Berejiklian has accused cruise ship owners of lying to health authorities. Premier Berejiklian said she believed Carnival Cruise provided NSW Health with false information regarding the health of its passengers. “I appreciate how upset everybody is, I live this and breathe this every day,” she said.
Meanwhile, there have been seven confirmed deaths and about 700 cases of COVID-19 stemming from the Ruby Princess cruise ship since it docked in Sydney last month. A joint government operation will helicopter doctors to about eight cruise ships – which are anchored off the coast of NSW – to test crew and passengers on board. Under the plan, anyone who tested positive for the coronavirus would be extracted from the vessels, treated, and the ships would be forced to leave Australian waters.
