Now the tour of South Africa has been scrapped, cricketers are awaiting anxiously as to whether they will be allowed to take part in the Indian Premier League.

Banned from touring South Africa on health and safety advice, Australia’s top cricketers are sweating on Cricket Australia giving approval for them to fulfil collective contracts that could be worth more than $15 million in the Indian Premier League.

While the Board of Control for Cricket in India will restrict the billion-dollar tournament to a select number of venues and is confident its bio-secure protocols can hold up, Cricket South Africa also felt it had everything in place to host the Australians, having completed a two-Test series at home against Sri Lanka last month.India has 10.

Player agents noted on Wednesday that the IPL will be held during the players’ official break from CA, and CA had initially indicated it would sign NOCs – unless there were personal injury issues to consider.
