A week after Australian tennis legend Margaret Court was promoted to the highest level of the Order of Australia in the Australia Day honours,, which has up to 30,000 listeners, revealed it was taking its stance because it was “troubled” by Court’s opposition to same-sex marriage and views on the LGBTQ community.
The vexed issue for Tennis Australia and the Victorian government erupted when two of the sport’s legends, John McEnroe and Martina Navratilova, unveiled a banner at Melbourne Park, calling for Margaret Court Arena to be renamed in honour of Goolagong.Navratilova reiterated her views last week as debate raged about Court’s promotion in the Australia Day honours.
