Mr McGowan and WA’s chief health officer Andy Robertson said WA was not out of the woods yet as it was possible there were undetected cases still in the community from the Mercure hotel cluster. Here’s some more of what WA Premier Mark McGowan had to say in favour of tightening international borders and using Commonwealth facilities for quarantine from“We are in a pandemic … millions of people are dying,” he said.
“The Commonwealth does have facilities that were built for these sorts of reasons … I know the Commonwealth doesn’t want to do it and I’ve heard all the arguments but basically they don’t want to do it because it is risk. It is risk for them ... I think they should be honest about it,” he said.
Heather_WAtoday Victoria will set their high limit at zero!
Heather_WAtoday that's what they have been doing for the whole last year. It isn't casual that Victoria had 1/10 of arrivals than NSW
Heather_WAtoday Lab states are only blaming the feds because there helping their mate Albo with his marketing campaign...they should just stop whinging and get on with fixing things....ffs, Covid is here to stay for some time...
Heather_WAtoday Absolutely. Totally agree.
Heather_WAtoday Funny how Gladys and NSW hotel quarantine is processing more returnees than the rest of Australia combined and with less issues, particularly Dan's mess
Heather_WAtoday Scary thing is he also said people shouldn’t be allowed to leave except for urgent or compassionate reasons. Which are? And who decides?
Heather_WAtoday Gladys needs to give tutorials on how to protect a State, keep it functioning , whilst not forgetting its national responsibility.
Heather_WAtoday Bitterly disappointing that Federal government has done nothing in respect of its quarantine obligations.
Heather_WAtoday IMHO JamesMerlinoMP Australians should be able to travel home especially if they have been vaccinated. I implore ScottMorrisonMP consideration of home quarantine. JoshFrydenberg
Heather_WAtoday Great and Labor is blaming the government for not getting Aussies back. Labor states need to be more confident on quarantine management now that they have had a year to practice !!!
Heather_WAtoday Doesn’t help when people are leaving and returning during a pandemic to have parties and weddings.
Heather_WAtoday This is code for 'If NSW will do the heavy lifting for the other States, more fool them'
Heather_WAtoday Reminds me of the B grade Saturday Matinee Movies of when I was a Kid. However the Provincial B Grade Pandemic Politics means I really don't want to see the B Grade Trailers Spectacle of the Weekends Ahead of B Grade Politics.
Heather_WAtoday Victoria should be zero until they build specialcentres out of the city
Heather_WAtoday Good to see the states pushing back against the Morrison / Tory model, which is:
Heather_WAtoday So Victoria 0 🤣
Heather_WAtoday If the states are taking on the risk on what should be a federal program then they should determine how many and where returned passengers come in from.
Heather_WAtoday Constitutionally - no - not if the feds decide otherwise
Heather_WAtoday JamesMerlinoMP said nothing yesterday.
Heather_WAtoday Ummm ... is there suggestion they can't? BTW I understood a rationale for having the Oz Open while locking out Victorians interstate was that Tennis Oz would pay for quarantine facilities which would increase Vic's capacity. Has this happened?
Heather_WAtoday The answer is simple. If the Feds want increased inbound passenger numbers, they must construct a network of quarantine centers out of our city centers, preferably using secure military bases within city catchments. If thet won't, then states should reduce hotel quarantine
Heather_WAtoday Everybody but you
Heather_WAtoday Morrison must be very angry that he can only control one premier Gladys seems to be the weak link
