Labor leader Bill Shorten has said that, if elected, his government would review the case of a Tamil family who are facing imminent deportation from Australia.

Tamil asylum seekers Nadesalingnam, wife Priya, and their Australian-born daughters Dharuniga and Kopiga."If I get elected as prime minister on Saturday, I will ask my immigration spokesperson to review the matter because community sentiment matters," Mr Shorten said.

He said if Biloela"wants to keep this precious family in their community, I think that's a good idea not a bad idea". Supporters of the family say they would face persecution in their native Sri Lanka because of past family links to the banned Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. About 400 supporters will rally in Melbourne on Wednesday to highlight the family's value to the community and raise concerns about returning them to Sri Lanka, where Priya's ex-fiance and five other men were burned to death before her eyes.

Tamil Refugee Council spokesman Aran Mylvaganam said Nadesalingam's life could be in danger if sent back to Sri Lanka due to links to the Tamil Tiger separatist organisation.

Bill shorten isn't PM material. He's incongruent.

Cool

Just do it. Review what Just do it.

They are being deported for NOT BEING MOZLIM.

Excellent.

They entered illegally as fake refugees. They were never under threat in Sri Lanka. In any event why didnt they go to India. It was much closer and culturally compatible. They were just chasing Aussie money.

If you are having any problems now is the time to speak to your local member and you will be assured your problem will be looked into (later)

Hope Bill can make this happen.

Typical weak as piss non-promise from an arrant coward. 'Review' their case indeed! Anyone with more than half a testicle would pledge to immediate release them and offer compensation for the appalling treatment they have received.

Send them back now.

If they're not turfed out by s predatory department stacked with 'officials' emulating the fascist mindset of its baldheaded former leader.

Onya Bill

Dutton throws out this family, but lets in murderers. Time to get rid of this very bad Govt.

Hurray!! Thank you billshortenmp ilikebillshorten

Hey slow down, all he said was he will 'have look', the same he said about newstart and to the guy about income tax increases

Of course !! Because it is not about theses desperate people...rather just scoring votes...so hate the way these leeches from both sides use human misery to further their own causes...disgraceful

But they may be a risk don’t you think, those little girls should we trust them, little Hitler oops sorry just typed my inner thoughts, little John Howard said “we will decide who comes here “ not them, I say do the right thing Bill you know what that is.

Get a life Shortern. Just open the gates to all and sundry. Forget about terrorists and the scum we let in. Ignore the protection to lour people.

vanbadham And then there’s this: This is how the LNP kept us “safe” from “rapists and murderers” auspol refugees 👇🏽👇🏽

Yesssss. Great win. Let's restart the boats. I love boats

MsVeruca Which means spud will try and get them on a flight out by Friday night.

Go Bill!

At least he is considering it. We know the other lot have no intention of doing so.

MsVeruca Please do the right thing Mr Shorten this family belongs in Biloela

Labor seems to be making a lot of promises to 'review' or 'consider'. They are NOTHING statements and simply a way to avoid commitment. Can they be relied upon? auspol ausvotes

Why review shouldn’t the Dept involved do it’s job properly in the very first instant like all of us!?

Let's ho pow this can happen, this beautiful family have been treated so badly by LNP goon Dutton .

Aren’t these people exactly the refugees we need to welcome? Seems their only crime was that they did not fly in on a visitor’s visa!

Here is a family that genuinely wants to be part of this great rural town, and they are being slammed that angry potato head because they are an easy target that won’t upset too many of his voters.

People that know them, have fought so hard to keep them here...they must be worth it! Let’s hope Bill gets in 👍🏻

Giving a green light to others to ignore our immigration laws.. your Gov is going to be lit

Of course. Bill has a concience.

What about Julian Assange! That would mean something and be worthy news for the Australian people.

What's Ken O'Dowd got to say to the 5,758 (2016 census) residents of Bileolw in his electorate that support them with such love. Seems those votes could be very important.

Good news but no guarantee and frankly short on the sort leadership I had hoped for.

good news I wanna see my son I leaved him alone I was removed from Aus 21/3/2017 I miss my son please help 💔

WILL THEY ALSO INVESTIGATE THIS? THE FBI IS. A TIMELINE OF SOME VERY SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY.

Dutton will ship these people out for spite

This is very good news.

he is scraping the bottom of the barrel - lets set precedent and then allow anyone and everyone in - so you can screw over more pensioners that you call the top end of town

Good.

Or the tamils can go home...

You will overrule the High Court - wow - Australia will have a PM that is judge and jury over every affair in life. This is a dictatorship. Mr Shorten you have no authority to usurp power in such a way, now or ever. LiberalAus

So clearly biased in favour of labour, on the tax-payer’s dime. What a disgrace. ElectionMeddling, DefundSBS

Bill is like Oprah - “YOU GET THIS! THEY GET THAT! WE ALL GET THAT!!!”

And rape allegations?
