The federal government has announced plans to underwrite projects for power generation, examing the business case of 12 energy projects.

The federal government has announced plans to underwrite projects for power generation, examing the business case of 12 energy projects - one coal, five gas and six hydro.

The Prime Minister also announced a $10 million feasibility study into ways to meet the energy needs of heavy industry in north and central Queensland, including a project in Collinsville, which is home to the state's oldest coal mine. Nationals MP Barnaby Joyce has assumed a coal project will get the go-ahead, declaring the announcement a win.
