Former Victorian Liberal Party president Michael Kroger says Independent candidate for the seat of Warringah Zali Steggall undermined her own stance on climate change by admitting she hasn't done a lot personally to reduce her own emissions.

During a debate hosted by Sky News, on Thursday, Ms Steggall says she supports Labor's 45 per cent emission reduction target and tougher national vehicle emissions standards for cars. However, the independent candidate who is vying to oust Tony Abbott from the blue-ribbon seat of Warringah in Sydney's north, admitted she'd like to 'do more' personally to combat climate change.
