Exclusive: Chris Minns to launch Labor leadership bid early next week nswpol | LisaVisentin

Labor leadership hopeful Chris Minns will put his hand up for the top job early next week, as MPs become increasingly eager for the vacuum to be filled as soon as possible.

But he will be forced to launch his campaign without the support of Labor's head office and general secretary Kaila Murnain, who party sources say is prepared to back "anyone but Minns". Under party rules, if more than one MP nominates for the leadership the party must hold a ballot of caucus and rank-and-file members, with each having a 50 per cent say in the outcome.

Another said MPs were growing increasingly frustrated at the power vacuum, saying "everything is on hold because we don't have a leader."
