A Chinese mother whose son is on life support in a Melbourne hospital says she is overjoyed to be given an emergency visa and says she "just wants to see him".
Xing Lan Ren, the mother of Xiao Li, said she is appreciative of hospital workers and the government as she prepares to fly to Melbourne. Ms Ren applied for an Australian visa on January 29, paying a total of $1145 to fast-track her application with a normal response time of two business days.
Good
i have sympathy for her.... but doesnt that make a mockery of the quarantine
I am so so sorry for the loss of her only son/ child, coming to Australia to study & invest lost time with his family for his potential future to then give back. My heart bleeds. So so thankful our Aussie government understands this families compassionate plee under such extreme
broomstick33 Would like to know how much it cost her
I started a GoFundMe for his mom. Please share it. Media people: please help me link it to Ms. Ren. 100% of donations going to support Ms. Ren.
This is sad.. no doubt about it.. but how many people could be potentially affected. They just had another doctor die in the Wuhan Hospital.. The Royal Melbourne Hospital is an amazing hospital. I wouldn't want any Doctor's life compromised in this hospital.
I bet Dutton isn’t happy
Common sense prevails bless
Sad. Good on Minister Tudge.
JanMareeSmith2 Fair enough
So sad for the family. God bless❤️
Finally the government is doing something good. How awful for her to have to jump through so many hoops at such an terrible time in her life.

Thank goodness. How much more could this mother bare. Lost only son and a widow too.
This is such a sad story
That’s good.
You mean the ScottyFromMarketing race-based view of how viruses work - where Australian citizens from China are allowed in to Australia but Chinese ones aren't, regardless of where they were living. Here's a 9 year old girl refused access to her mum
Good.

Chinese mother granted Australian visa to see her dying sonA Chinese mother has been granted an Australian visa to say goodbye to her dying son in Melbourne, despite the coronavirus travel bans. Surely the Australian government can issue an ‘act of grace’ allowing this mother entry into Australia so she can say goodbye to her son before it’s too late! Very sad but we can’t risk everyone’s safety for you . I’m confused .. I understand her wanting to be there however I’m not sure why she would want to risk killing countless others
