The Chinese doctor who tried to warn other medics about the coronavirus, but was reprimanded by police, has died after contracting the virus in Wuhan, Chinese media says.
"We're very sorry to hear of the loss of any person on the front line," said Mike Ryan, executive director of the World Health Organisation's Health Emergencies Program, at a press conference in Geneva. "We will mourn his death with our colleagues."As word of a mysterious virus first mounted, Li shared suspicions in a private chat with his fellow medical school alumni.
But their warnings were prescient. Soon, health officials around the world would be scrambling to combat a novel virus with a striking genetic resemblance to SARS."The diagnosis is finally confirmed," Li posted January 31 on the social media platform Weibo.
