It was the driest spring in 120 years of records and the fifth hottest for the nation as a whole.

Key points:All capital city water storages are down on this time last year, apart from MelbourneIt comes on top of previous dry seasons, with the year-to-date rainfall now the second lowest on record.

Western Australia was particularly dry, as well as hot, recording its lowest spring rainfall, highest average temperature and highest mean daytime temperature. It was the fifth-warmest spring on record for the country as a whole — mean maximum temperatures were 2.41C warmer than average, second only to 2014.

Maximum temperatures were in the top 10 years of records for all states and territories with the exception of Victoria and Tasmania, which were still above average.

Didn't BoM just erase a bunch of their old data... How convenient

Not in Melbourne.....

Weather records in are only about 135 years old . Which is not even a blink in time lol. Good try guys ... keep it up . It’s a good laugh .

Today, midday Melbourne, 10degC and snow nearby.. it’s summer.. climate emergency?

Yet some people think it's something to laugh at. ScottMorrisonMP

nonsense...

GreenpeaceAP BOM better get it's act together do records start in 1900 or 1910 make up your mind.

Lots more data collection needed to give us all the facts from our planets 4.5 billion year history! Let us know when your done collecting will you!

Misleading: Why don't they publish the raw data instead of weather scare mongering? The records 120 years ago were certainly taken in a very different way than nowadays. Many assumptions had to be made to use them.

Must be the year for records. Melbourne temp was just 0.4C above the 164 y/o all-time lowest-high temp for the first day of summer which was 15.5C.

What does it say about temperatures in the South Eastern regions. At the beginning of Summer?

Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

psimpsonmorgan 5th hottest yet best snow season ever. What a contradiction.

'..and the fifth hottest for the NATION as a whole.' So, we have had 'global warming emergencies' in the past? I bet Greta Thunderberg did not realise this (or ExtinctionRebellion). 🤔

This is directly Scott Morrison's fault. Bill Shorten would have fixed climate change by now.

Just a coincidence, nothing to see here. If you don't believe me ask Morrison.

Would it help if everyone shouted at everyone else? 3,2,1.........
