Brad Scott knows of only 10 other businesses in Australia doing what he's doing — making plastic that would otherwise go to landfill into beautiful and useful objects. Why aren't more interested businesses taking the leap?

While most people are looking to get rid of their plastic waste, Brad Scott cannot get enough of the stuff.Precious Plastic is a free, open-source recycling project providing communities the tools to reduce waste locallyBrad Scott says he has been contracted by major companies to create products for them using plastic waste

While melting down plastic waste and recycling it into everyday items may seem like common sense, Mr Scott is one of few in the country actually doing it.The machine Mr Scott uses is inspired by the Precious Plastic project, the brainchild of Dutch industrial design student Dave Hakkens. "If you want something where you push a button and get a thousand, that's not me, that's not what I do," Mr Scott said.

While Mr Scott built a bigger shed and hired an extra employee last year to help keep up with business, there was only so much he could do with the technology available, he said. "If it takes so much time to produce a small product it doesn't really seem overly cost effective to use the machines for that," Mr Butler said.
